Frequently Asked Questions
How does the calculator handle leap years?
Our calculator follows the Gregorian calendar rules: A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, but not divisible by 100 unless it is also divisible by 400. This ensures accurate date calculations.
Can I calculate dates far in the future or past?
Yes, our calculator works for any date within the range supported by your browser (typically years 100-275000).
What's the maximum number of days I can add or subtract?
You can enter any positive integer value. The calculator will handle even very large numbers correctly.
Is my date data stored anywhere?
No, all calculations happen in your browser. We don't store or transmit any of your data to our servers.
Why does the calculator show different results than other date calculators?
Small differences can occur due to how leap years and month lengths are handled. Our algorithm follows the Gregorian calendar rules precisely.
Can I calculate business days or weekdays only?
This calculator includes all days. For business day calculations, check out our specialized business date calculator tool.
Understanding Leap Years
Leap Year Rules
- If a year is divisible by 400, it is a leap year (2000, 2400)
- Else if divisible by 100 but not by 400, it is NOT a leap year (1900, 2100)
- Else if divisible by 4 but not by 100, it IS a leap year (2004, 2008, 2024)
- Otherwise (not divisible by 4), it is NOT a leap year (2001, 2002, 2003)
Why Leap Years Matter
Leap years are necessary because a solar year is approximately 365.2425 days long. Without adding an extra day every four years, our calendar would gradually drift relative to the astronomical seasons.
Our date calculator accurately accounts for these leap year adjustments, ensuring your date calculations remain precise even when spanning multiple years.
